The construction of 5G networks in Bulgaria will start in the low frequencies (3.5 GHz of Telenor), as our WiFi routers at home operate on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. Each base station goes through thorough regulations and calculations, which are many times stricter than the European requirements. The base stations are prepared for this expansion and will continue to work with all existing and new technologies.

5G is the next generation of wireless network technology. All of us will experience one of the fastest, reliable and secure technologies the world has ever seen. 5G will allow you to enjoy an unrivalled experience with seamless performance, whether you’re watching a film, playing your favourite game or joining a video call. It is bringing new capabilities, opens new horizons, creates unique opportunities for people, businesses and society. It changes the world, helping us to live better through 5G enabled healthcare, education, smart buildings, smart cities and entertainment.
In technical terms, 5G networks are characterised by:
low-latency: near real-time network responsiveness;
wider bandwidth: for ultra-fast data sharing;
guaranteed quality: having a part of the network reserved for a particular use;

Network latency is the time needed for a set of data to travel between two points, for example between a cell tower and a 5G phone. Generally speaking, the latency of 5G is faster than other known technology generations (4G, 3G, 2G) and is cut to 1 ms, imagine faster than the blink of an eye. (For reference, the blink of an eye is 300-400 milliseconds.)

5G will outperform 4G in both speed and latency. However, there will be a long period of time when 4G and 5G will co-exist. LTE (Long Term Evolution), will be around for at least 10 years, so 5G will not make LTE obsolete any time soon. 5G capable phones can actually use both 4G and 5G technology. If you’ve got a 4G phone, don’t worry it will still work - we're continuing to invest in our 4G network.

No, 5G does not pose a risk to the health and the nature. 5G technology is highly regulated and we work within strict guidelines. EC as well as Bulgaria have adopted strict requirements towards EMF maximum exposure limits. Currently recommended limits are adequate to protect public health. Bulgaria has one of the strictest standards for EMF maximum exposure limits in Europe, which are up to 100 times lower than those of the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
At frequencies used by 5G, the only effect observed is thermal or the possibility of slight heating.
