Profiling is one of the manners of personal data processing whereupon an analysis and an assessment of specific aspects (e.g. credit assessment) is made or the potential preferences and interests of a natural person are forecasted. Automated means – information systems for data processing – are used in profiling.

For preparation of credit assessment

Credit assessment is an automated check of the creditworthiness of a natural person. Its objective is to show us to what extent a person is likely to stop paying his/her liabilities to Telenor or find himself/herself in a situation where (s)he is unable to do so.

Upon the preparation of the credit assessment an analysis of preceding data regarding the respective person as Telenor user is made (if Telenor has any). Person’s data are also juxtaposed with summarized statistical information about company’s punctual and late payers.

In case of a lower credit assessment the person may be required to prepay one or more monthly fees (when purchasing the device at a preferential price with a subscription plan), to pay certain initial installment (when the device is provided on hire purchase), to provide another guarantee or security, and, in rare cases, the person may be offered a lower-class device.

If a natural person is dissatisfied with the credit assessment obtained (s)he may request a reconsideration thereof by a written application filed at a trade outlet of Telenor or at an outlet of our partners’ network.

The credit assessment of a user who pays his/her liabilities on time would be better than the credit assessment of a user who is often late with the payments;
The credit assessment of a user who has terminated his/her contract with prior notice after the expiration of its term would be better than the one of a user whose contract with Telenor has been terminated due to unpaid liabilities.

For preparation of appropriate offers to users

Preparation and selection of appropriate offers for a user is made by means of an automated analysis of his/her data (e.g. data regarding a current contract, summarized consumption and others) and is based on summarized statistical information about other present or former users of the company. The purpose of such analysis is to establish what product or service would be, in our opinion, the most appropriate one for the user.

If the summarized consumption of a user of prepaid services shows a great volume of mobile internet consumption such user may be offered a subscription plan that includes more megabytes of mobile internet and/or may be offered to purchase a smart phone.

For internal analyses

When carrying out internal analyses customers are grouped based on their basic data, data regarding the contracts and their summarized consumption in order to establish the possible connection between their data and the use of certain products or services as well as to establish the reasons for refusals of services, switching form one type of service to another, or the continued use of the respective service. Based on that information Telenor develops its product portfolio and customer care, assesses company’s performance and plans its future activities.

For prevention, detection and investigation of abuses

For the purposes of prevention, detection and investigation of abuses Telenor makes an automated analysis of users’ data. Based on that analysis some cases of non-typical conduct are established and subsequently our employees examine them one by one to check whether an abuse is present or not.
